Mobile computing to replace the desktop PC!

Last week, the joint CEOs of one of the world's largest business management software solutions providers, SAP, made an astonishing prediction; mobile is the new desktop, and the move toward mobile is unstoppable! Co-CEO Bill McDermott was speaking at SAP's SAPphire customer conference, held simultaneously in Florida and Frankfurt, and said,

"Customers today have to run real-time businesses. The pace of competition, the global consolidation in many industries that we see is forcing people to compete in real time, and locking the company's mission in unison has to happen in real time. To do that, you have to connect workers on the fly. Most workers are mobile and have to make decisions in real time that connect the boardroom to the shop floor."

Confirming the importance of mobile to the future of their company, McDermott said, "Our vision is to reach 1 billion users that actually touch SAP in some way and mobile is a very powerful conversation."

Of course this is a view very much shared by Consilium Technologies, the leading provider of enterprise mobile software applications for government agencies, local authorities, housing associations and other public sector departments in the UK. Chief Executive Colin Reid said;

"Our mobile software applications have been specially designed to allow organisations to respond faster, report accurately, reduce waste and perform better by more effectively managing their mobile workforce. Using the advantages of our mobile software applications to manage your business allows our customers to manage staff and projects more effectively, increasing productivity while at the same time strengthening compliance and, quite frankly, saving quite a lot of money year on year!"

Reid added, "We believe our TotalMobile software applications, are the natural choice for managers and their frontline staff because they are thoroughly proven and have been designed for the needs of government and the public sector by people who really understand what government needs and how it works."

"Now that organisations with the scale of SAP, Google and even Microsoft are increasingly hinting that their futures will be based on mobile-based, web-enabled computing, then we know for certain that Consilium is well placed to be able to provide our customers with the full range of business management software services that they will require."
