Newcastle City Council Revolutionise Efficiency with TotalMobile from Consilium

Before implementing TotalMobile from Consilium, Newcastle City Council were facing challenges due to cuts to local government funding, and as a result, the council were under pressure to deliver savings whilst protecting front-line services. The council aimed to achieve this through being as efficient and effective as possible.  When presented with this challenge, Neil Golightly, Head of Performance Planning and Programmes within the Environment and Regeneration Directorate at Newcastle City Council, believed the best way to do this was to address back office efficiency through the use of IT and Mobile Working.

To meet their efficiency needs, Newcastle selected TotalMobile from Consilium, a flexible Enterprise Mobile Working solution that can be used for various departments and types of field workers in an organisation. Neil Golightly stated “We chose TotalMobile because we believe it's the best product available and also it's the most competitively priced. It gives us the ability to have a standard product which links into a number of the councils back office systems”

Newcastle City Council initially implemented TotalMobile in their Gas Servicing & Repairs, Electrical Testing and Regional Traffic Signals Service Departments. They experienced a range of benefits after implementation.  Neil explains;

“Having chosen TotalMobile as an enterprise solution we are delighted with the results that we've achieved. We've achieved a number of benefits and efficiencies through using the system, for example productivity we've seen improve by around 10%, we've seen reduced sickness levels, we've seen greater efficiencies in regards to our carbon footprint, reduced fuel, reduced accommodation costs. It's also allowed us to reduce administration costs particularly in the back office.

Customer satisfaction and staff morale have both improved as a result of using TotalMobile.

TotalMobile, as an enterprise solution has delivered efficiencies and value for money to the council. I believe we have bought the best mobile system as it's currently delivering a range of solutions on both Smartphone and tablet.”

After the successes of TotalMobile in these departments, the council have recently decided to roll out the solution to their Home Care department.

Consilium have over 25 years providing efficiency-saving IT solutions to Local Government and Housing Associations and are experts in Mobile Working. The company were able to share their knowledge and experience with Newcastle City Council to help them develop a Mobile Working strategy that allows the council to reach its potential and realise all the possible benefits.  Neil Golightly found that Consilium were able to provide excellent customer service.

“I believe with Consilium we have identified people we can work with, not just deliver us technical solutions and walk away. From Consilium's Chief Executive and right through the organisation, I believe that they have gone the extra mile to understand our business and build relationships with our people. This can only be a good thing and lead to mutual success for us both.”

After many years experience, Consilium are now using their expertise to help Councils and housing Associations across the UK by holding seminars regarding Mobile Working. These seminars include presentations from expert speakers, case studies and live demonstrations of a solution on a range of the latest mobile devices.

The next seminar, “The Realities of Mobile Working” will highlight the various considerations that need to be made when developing a Mobile Working strategy that truly delivers the potential benefits. This essential event takes place on 12th November at HMS President in London and is open to anyone responsible for Mobile Working within their organisation (as the event is sponsored by Consilium, there is no charge for attendance).
